This is a performance art piece that Yamaguchi has been practicing since 2017, involving domestic and international travel with only a smartphone (and a passport for overseas trips). The work challenges the concept of “national borders,” which often present a significant psychological barrier for Japanese people raised on an island nation, by crossing them with the same ease as visiting a local cafe.

In this minimalist journey, where basic travel essentials such as clothing, cash, and chargers are completely abandoned, modern technology and the kindness of strangers become indispensable. Yamaguchi intentionally places himself in this “vulnerable” state, surrendering to unpredictable situations and responding to them spontaneously.

2017年より実践している、スマートフォン1台（海外旅行の場合はパスポートも）のみを携えて国内外を旅するパフォーマンス作品。島国で育った日本人にとって大きな心理的障壁となる「国境」を、山口は近所のカフェに行くかのような身軽さで超えていく。これまで日本から上海、ロサンゼルス、ティファナ（メキシコ）を手ぶらで旅した。衣服、現金、充電器などといった旅の基本となる持ち物を一切持たないこのミニマルな旅では、現代のテクノロジーの活用と周囲の人々の助けが不可欠となる。山口はこの意図的な「無防備さ」によって、生まれる予測不可能な状況に身を委ね、それらに即興で応答する。

His passport bears the stamp from November 29, 2017, when he successfully entered the United States carrying nothing but a smartphone.

The ultimate goal of this project is to implement in society the ability to easily transcend national borders, and from 2022, the project is conducting joint research with KDDI R&D Laboratories on people’s mobility. This research has resulted in later works such as ‘Swept Along, but Not Swept Away’ (2024- ongoing).

本プロジェクトの究極の目標は、国境を容易に越境する能力を社会に実装することであり、2022年からはKDDI総合研究所とモビリティに関する共同研究を行っている。この研究は《流されずに流されていく》（2024年-）などの後続作品へと発展した。
